Country Girl: A Memoir by Edna O’Brien

December, 2020

In 1960, Edna O’Brien, now a famed Irish writer, wrote her first novel, The Country Girls which scandalized her local County Clare parish in Ireland so greatly that the parish priest publicly burned it.  There is no question that O’Brien designed or fell into a life that would give her plenty to tell about: convent school, elopement, divorce, single motherhood, wild parties in London and New York and encounters with literary giants, publishers, pop stars and famous Hollywood giants across the world.  From being broke and penniless to enjoying unlimited perks and means, she navigates through drama after drama.  Did I say she tells her story well? Well enough to include one of her nearly thirty books on my bedside table.
